Queensland to investigate hydrogen

Posted by Nathan on May 14, 2007

Queensland premier Peter Beattie announced yesterday that a team of scientists from three Queensland universities will work with the University of South Carolina in the United States to work towards the development of hydrogen energy as an alternative to fossil fuels. The agreement covers research and business collaboration as well as university staff and student exchanges.

“Hydrogen has great potential as a clean energy carrier to replace hydrocarbons at a time when the world is desperately seeking alternative energy sources,” Beattie said during a trade mission in the US. The Premier lists hydrogen as one of the possibilities the state was investigating as an alternative to non-renewable fuels in response to global warming, including clean coal and ethanol.
